PROJECT TEXT: J,P:A took the opportunity of this Tenant Improvement project to design furniture to go along with the architecture. Two conference tables and a work table were designed using the same materials and systems as the space itself. Unfortunately, none were ultimately built.

Like all of our furniture designs, these exceeded the brief, looking for more opportunities to include engaging features or affordances appropriate to the basic functionality. In the case of the tables, this usually means incorporating some sort of lower shelf that can keep the table top itself free from distracting clutter that invariably gets swept aside as the meetings progress. In such designs, material may be put on the lower shelf instead. And in the particular case of the glass topped tables, this stuff remains visible for reference or surreptitious email, texting, and cat video distractions during meetings when you otherwise appear to be paying attention.
